Argentine Tango is a form of dance that began in Argentina but has been influenced by other cultures ever since. Tango is a way of expressing feelings, depicting life experiences and interpreting stories. The reasons it came about are still evident in its philosophy today: two people moving as one to the music as they try to get to know each other. The more they interact, understand and communicate with each other, the better they dance.
Guillermo and Maria share this philosophy of Tango. They respect the traditional and cultural elements of their art. Once they realised that Argentine Tango was not just a part of life but a way of living it was a natural decision to make it their profession. As they explored every aspect of this amazing dance they were inspired to share this knowledge. Through performance and classes they present, express and explain the philosophy of Argentine Tango.
The teaching is focused on the main characteristics of Argentine Tango and its culture. Students learn that it’s about the improvisation, interaction and communication between a couple as two people collaborate to dance as one.
Maria and Guillermo encourage their students to respect and embrace the traditional and cultural elements of Tango. Consequently, the social side of this dance culture is an important part of the fun/learning experience. Their students are invited to Milongas, special Tango social events where they can meet up with friends and make new ones, all united in their love of Tango.
One of the joys of Tango is that the music can be played and danced to in so many different ways. Just as different Tango orchestras interpreted particular pieces of Tango music in a variety of ways, Tango Unlimited dance students are encouraged to bring their own personality to their dancing. It’s more about interpreting Tango rather than concentrating on specific steps.
